Under direction of the Arts & Cultural Affairs Manager, this 75% FTE position is specifically for a Theatre Manager assignment.
The Theatre Manager is responsible for overseeing the management of the Veterans Memorial Theatre and the Mobile Stage, including materials and equipment. The incumbent will develop and facilitate performing arts programs and special events consistent with the core values of the City of Davis. The position plays an important role in the local creative sector and works with the Arts & Cultural Affairs Manager to rejuvenate, reimagine and implement the Theatre’s role in the Davis community. This position requires extensive planning, organization, decision-making, budgeting, multitasking, responsibility, communication and leadership skills, and supervision of a team of part-time theatre staff.
This is a 75% FTE regular appointment with benefits. Hours will vary depending on facility reservations. Regularly includes evening, weekend and holiday hours on a year-round basis.
A few examples of duties unique to the Theatre Manager assignment include but are not limited to:
- Overseeing daily operations and management of the Veterans Memorial Theatre and Mobile Stage
- Evaluating and implementing theatre-specific policy and procedures for operations, staffing, training, event operation, reservations, maintenance/inventory, safety protocols and use
- Supporting off-site City-produced or hosted events, as needed (i.e., Martin Luther King Jr. Day, July 4, Holiday Tree Lighting)
- Contracting with vendors, theatre/stage renters and community partnerships
- Recruiting, training and supervising theatre staff
- Promoting the Theatre and its events with the public, and developing and sustaining a network of collaborative partnerships with diverse community groups to promote, support and expand the role of the Theatre and its use
The Theatre Manager position is a specialty assignment within the Community Services Program Coordinator classification and is a 75% regular appointment.
