Project Overview
The Department of Arts and Culture's Civic Art Division, has contracted Site & Studio Conservation to perform conservation of the Inner Resources mural by artist Paul Botello, located in City Terrace Park. One of the largest murals in Los Angeles, Inner Resources celebrates East Los Angeles culture, nature, and education. The contract with Site & Studio Conservation includes opportunities for four emerging conservators and/or artists to participate in the conservation.
Scope of Work
Site & Studio Conservation will contract, supervise, and mentor up to four apprentices throughout the project, which includes guidance and training on one or more of the following:
- Graphic and photo-documentation,
- Identification and examination of condition phenomena and artist materials,
- Analysis of materials and methods for preparing and fabricating murals,
- Agents of deterioration and risks to murals,
- Research on conservation treatment materials,
- Conservation treatment and other technical skills needed for the conservation of the mural,
- Restoration techniques in collaboration with the artist,
- Long-term preservation, including long-term maintenance and monitoring protocols for murals.
Apprentices may also participate in mural tour(s) of East Los Angeles, studio visits of local art conservators, and artist workshops led by artist Paul Botello.
