Production Manager
About Us
Los Angeles Nomadic Division (LAND) connects people and places through art to deepen a sense of belonging by commissioning site-responsive free public art and programs. Our small but mighty team of curators and producers are committed to supporting the fullest scope of artistic practice and typically partner with artists to commission and produce projects in one of three scales:
- Multi-year or open-ended support of an artist on a specific project, or a commitment to a single site/community (18 months – ongoing)
- Working with an artist or curator to develop an exhibition or program for a specified duration and location/context (6-18 months)
- Working responsively on more immediate or projects still in development (1-6 months)
About the role:
The Production Manager will be responsible for managing end-to-end production for LAND projects. This role will report to the Deputy Director and collaborate closely with the LAND team and artist’s studio managers.
This role will focus on a complex, site specific, multi-year project to debut in South Central Los Angeles in 2024 with LA-based artist, Lauren Halsey. You will be responsible for managing key stakeholders such as project architect, project construction manager, permitting, engineers, vendors, the larger studio team, partners and community members throughout the planning phase. A core responsibility will be to create a comprehensive production plan and budget to support the approximately 3 year project. This role will lead the increase in LAND’s production capacity including the hiring and management of a Production Coordinator in 2025.
What you’ll do:
Production Administration
- Strategize with LAND, the featured artist, and project partners to scope projects
- Build and manage an end-to-end timeline for projects to support all LAND team members and oversee contracted collaborators
- Utilize project management software tools to track tasks and ensure team accountability, this may include creating SOPs and providing training support
- Develop a process to create project budget projections and track project actuals in Quickbooks for the various phases of the project including providing recommendations on cost saving or investments
- Develop and maintain systems for invoice tracking and reconciliation in collaboration with bookkeeper and accountant including supporting the annual audit process
- Draft contracts, waiver, procure insurance in partnership with legal teams
Production Logistics
- Create on-site management plan and communicate with an installation and production team comprised of studio fabricators, architects, engineers, contractors, and legal team
- Negotiate contracts and any commission agreements as needed
- Have a deep understanding of the logistics of art shipping; Liaise with institution on deinstall, shipping and registration needs to get work returned to artist studio
- Research fabricators, vendors, engineers, and more with the artist’s studio and Construction Manager
- Have knowledge of site management, familiarity of permitting, engineering and construction processes within LA County
- Liaise and manage stakeholders and a vast array of vendors on complex structural and permitting issues necessary to prepare the site ensuring all LA city requirements are met during feasibility studies
- Manage on-site logistics, troubleshooting any disruptive issues, this role will require regular lifting 30 lbs of materials and equipment
Relationship management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with artists, their studio teams, and contracted collaborators, ensuring everyone has what they need contribute to the project
- Conduct ongoing check ins with individuals and larger team to ensure open lines of communication, timely progress, and clear expectations
- Support the artist, partner organizations, and curator with community engagement efforts and programming needs
Who you are:
- You have 5+ years of experience with art production including executing large-scale, site-specific projects
- You’ve built effective relationships with artists, fabricators, architects, construction teams, and engineers. If you need an additional skill set to support a project you know how to find it and bring them in
- You have knowledge of a variety of fabrication methods and processes including understand architectural and construction documents and processes
- People who know you well rave about your organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects for multiple stakeholders without missing a beat
- You operate with the expectation that projects don’t always go as planned and are able to problem solve, think creatively, and shift gears to ensure a project isn’t derailed
- You thrive in working within a highly collaborative small team environment where members are trusted to manage their responsibilities autonomously in support of a shared goal

- You’re able to use software effectively to support your project work. Microsoft Office, GSuite, Adobe Creative Suite, CAD, Airtable, and Asana experience preferred
- You have a current driver’s license and a clean driving record
LAND has an office space in Jefferson Park that the team typically works from Tuesday-Thursday, with Monday and Friday remote. This position involves regular in-person on-site responsibilities including occasional evening and weekend commitments, with the ability to transport production materials in a personal vehicle or rental truck as required.
Compensation:
- This role is a full-time salaried position at LAND with a range of $100,000-110,000 based on experience
