Job Title: Part Time Executive Director
Reports to: Board of Directors
Organization: Latino Center of Art & Culture (LCAC)
Position Type: Part-Time (20-25 hours per week)
Compensation: $3,200 - $3,700 per month (depending on experience)
Position Overview:
The Executive Director (Part-Time) of the Latino Center of Art and Culture (LCAC) is responsible for overseeing the daily operations, fiscal management, and program execution to ensure the successful fulfillment of LCAC's mission. Working closely with the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will lead key initiatives in fundraising, program management, community engagement, and organizational administration, while ensuring that the cultural and artistic goals of LCAC are advanced. This part-time role offers flexibility, with an expectation for the Executive Director to increase hours and transition into a full-time position by the end of the first year, based on organizational growth and funding.
Core Responsibilities:
1. Organizational Leadership and Strategy
- Provide leadership and vision in alignment with LCAC's mission, working closely with the Board of Directors to develop and implement strategic goals.
- Participate in Board meetings and provide regular updates on organizational performance, programs, and finances.
- Collaborate with Board committees (e.g., Fundraising, Finance) to support the development and execution of key initiatives.
- Recruit and hire a part-time operations staff member within the first six months
2. Financial Management
- Oversee the financial health of LCAC, including managing budgets, reviewing financial reports, and ensuring timely bill payments.
- Ensure compliance with nonprofit financial regulations and best practices.
- Work with the finance committee to review QuickBooks entries, reconcile accounts, and manage financial documents.
- Prepare quarterly financial reports and assist with preparing the annual budget for Board approval.
- Coordinate with external contractors, including CPAs, to ensure timely tax filings and compliance with financial regulations.
3. Fundraising and Grant Management
- Identify, prepare, and submit grant applications to secure funding from local, state, and national sources, including the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and California Arts Council (CAC).
- Manage the completion and submission of midterm and final grant reports.
- Develop and implement fundraising strategies, including events and donor outreach, to generate revenue for reserve funds and discretionary funding.
Additional RESPONSIBILITIES
Within the first year, the Executive Director is tasked with securing funding to hire staff to support the additional responsibilities. The Board of Directors will provide support in these areas within the first year, as part of the onboarding process.
4. Program Management
- Oversee the planning and implementation of LCAC’s key cultural events and programs, including Día del Niño, Fiesta de Frida, and El Panteón de Sacramento.
- Work with the team to ensure high-quality delivery of events and exhibitions, maintaining LCAC’s reputation for excellence in Latino arts and culture.
- Assist in developing the annual calendar of events and programs.
5. Volunteer and Personnel Management
- Oversee volunteer recruitment and management to ensure LCAC operations are appropriately staffed, especially for cultural events and gallery exhibitions.
- Train and support volunteers in their roles, ensuring follow-through on tasks and assignments.
- Coordinate with independent contractors (e.g., CPA, publicist, grant writers) to ensure smooth operations.
6. Communications and Public Relations
- Serve as the primary spokesperson for the organization, including handling media relations and public communications.
- Serve as the primary liaison between LCAC and external stakeholders, including city officials, community partners, and the public.
- Support the preparation of marketing materials, event promotions, and communications in collaboration with the Communications Director.
- Respond to public inquiries and represent LCAC at public events and meetings to build community relations and increase visibility.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in nonprofit management, preferably in arts and culture organizations.
- Strong understanding of Latino arts and culture, with a commitment to advancing LCAC’s mission.
- Demonstrated experience in financial management, including budgeting, reporting, and grant management. Familiarity with QuickBooks is preferred.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Experience in fundraising, donor relations, and grant writing is highly desirable.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work both independently and collaboratively with a team.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks and general financial management tools (preferred).
- Proficiency in Spanish is highly desirable.
Work Environment:
- The position requires a flexible schedule, including availability for occasional evening and weekend events.
- The Executive Director will work an estimated 20-25 hours per week, with the possibility of increasing hours based on organizational needs and funding.
