Grant Guidelines and Applications

We invite and encourage artists and organizations representing diverse populations and diverse artistic disciplines to apply for these grants. As stated in our Cultural Equity Statement, the City of West Hollywood’s Arts Division and Arts and Cultural Affairs Commission’s definition of diversity includes all ways in which people differ, including but not limited to, race, ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic status, education, age, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, ability, geography, citizenship status, religion, language, physical appearance, and the intersection of these various identities. All grant applications are submitted electronically. Applications are accessed through the City’s website at weho.org/arts.*Applicants may only apply to 1 category each year.

Arts Grant Program Categories

2027-2028 Special Arts Project Grant - AVAILABLE

APPLICATION DEADLINE IS JULY 1, 2026

Supports eligible artists and nonprofit arts organizations for the production, performance, or presentation of large-scale art projects that will take place in West Hollywood and serve the local community between March and September 2028. This special initiative category responds to the West Hollywood's Bronze Silver Gold Creative Plan (Creative Plan), which outlines an authentic and bespoke vision for citywide cultural programming that centers artistic excellence and community engagement in order to create immersive experiences and cultural activities which center the City of West Hollywood as a cultural hub during the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. This one-time, two-year grant replaces the Arts Project Grant category to align with the anticipated increase in audiences during the 2028 Games.

Applicants are encouraged to propose innovative, participatory projects that bring energy, relevance, and global resonance to this initiative. Selected grantees will have the opportunity to present bold, forward-thinking artistic work that captures the spirit of the moment while reflecting West Hollywood’s unique cultural identity and reflect the theme of Inventing Traditions. Applicants will apply for 2 years of funding for 1 proposed project.

The proposed project should have 2 phases: development/engagement and implementation. The proposed public facing project must occur between March and September 2028. The City will curate the 2028 programming schedule, with key opportunities to present during the two-week period between the Games. 

The maximum grant award is $24,000 per grantee ($12,000 per year). Additionally, an allocation of $15,000 will be reserved for applicants who self-identify as disabled, as well as nonprofit organizations that support and serve disabled artists.

Community Arts Grant - AVAILABLE

APPLICATION DEADLINE IS JULY 1, 2026

The Community Arts Grant is intended to support non-profit arts organizations, or individual artists with a history of supporting LGBQ, BIPOC and/or female artists and audiences.  Proposed programs can include art centered presentations or participatory programs (workshops) which enhance the community.

Proposed projects may take place in June but will not be included as part of the WeHo Pride Festival and should be considered as separate from both the WeHo Pride Weekend as well as the WeHo Pride Arts Festival.

Transgender, Gender Diverse, Intersex + Arts Grant - AVAILABLE

APPLICATION DEADLINE IS JULY 1, 2026

The City of West Hollywood is pleased to offer the Transgender, Gender Diverse, Intersex (TGI+) Arts Grant, a category initiated by the City Council in 2013 intended to support and enhance the presentation of artworks in West Hollywood by artists, artist collectives or groups, and non-profit organizations that have demonstrated a significant commitment to and involvement with the transgender, non-binary, intersex, and gender non-conforming community. Individual artists, artist collectives or groups, and non-profit organizations with a history of supporting transgender, gender diverse, and/or intersex artists are all welcome to apply.

Proposed projects may take place in June but will not be included as part of the WeHo Pride Festival and should be considered as separate from both the WeHo Pride Weekend as well as the WeHo Pride Arts Festival.

WeHo Artist Grant - AVAILABLE

The WeHo Artist Grant aims to nurture and support the long-term development of an artist’s ideas by providing funds that increase the capacity for artists to realize work, advance the conditions of creation, and navigate the complexities of both making art and making a career. By directly providing funds to individual artists, the City hopes to keep artists in West Hollywood, attract new artists to the City, and contribute to the quality of our economic and social well-being. The grant may be used in any capacity to fulfill the proposed project within the calendar year.

Filmmakers Grant - AVAILABLE

 APPLICATION DEADLINE IS JULY 1, 2026

The City of West Hollywood is pleased to offer the pilot Filmmakers Grant intended to support film artists with the marketing and screening components of their project. The purpose for the grant is to support filmmakers with funding for the exhibition and distribution of their completed film projects.

Grant funds may be used for costs related to sharing your finished film with the public, including: hiring a distribution or impact consultant, film festival submission fees, and marketing materials (posters, trailers, press kits, etc.).
