        GAAP Cohort 3 Informational Webinar

In Zoom on Thursday, August 6, 2026 | 12:00 PM -  1:30 PM PT  |  CA for the Arts

The Grassroots Artists Advocacy Program (GAAP) is a cohort-based fellowship program for diverse artists, culture bearers, and creative workers with an artistic or cultural practice who live or work in Oakland or San Francisco.

Through GAAP, participants strengthen their ability to advocate for themselves, their communities, and the policies that shape the future of arts and culture. Each fellow identifies an issue they are passionate about and develops an advocacy project focused on creating meaningful change. Fellows are supported in building practical advocacy strategies while learning alongside a community of peers.

Throughout the nine-month fellowship, participants engage in policy education, leadership development, community organizing, relationship building, and advocacy planning while receiving mentorship and support from experienced arts advocates. GAAP is designed to cultivate artist advocates who understand that artists are not only creators of culture but also essential civic leaders capable of shaping stronger, healthier, and more equitable communities. As part of a community of practice, fellows learn from one another’s lived experiences, build lasting relationships, and contribute to a growing network of advocates advancing arts and culture throughout the Bay Area.

There will also be time for questions and conversation to help you determine whether GAAP is the right fit for you.

We look forward to sharing more about how GAAP is cultivating the next generation of artist advocates in Oakland and San Francisco.

GAAP is a program funded by the Kenneth Rainin Foundation and the Walter & Elise Haas Fund.
