2026 Mural Artist Application
The SF LGBT Center is seeking artists for a hand-painted mural on the exterior wall of the Center at 1800 Market Street in San Francisco. The exhibition term is expected to be June 1 2026, through June 1 2028 (TBC), with installation occurring the week of May 18 2026 – May 29 2026.
Artists are invited to submit an application that includes a resume, portfolio, and bio/artist statement.
After an initial review by the Director of Cultural Programs, selected finalists will be invited to submit a mural concept that shines a spotlight on local LGBTQ+ history and incorporates QR code technology to create a living library of Queer ancestry. As curators of this project, we will be looking for work that is conceptually, aesthetically, and technically compelling, and reflects the Center’s values and mission. Concept proposals should be centered in inclusivity and representative of the diverse Bay Area LGBTQ+ community.
This request for proposals is open to professional mural artists living and producing art in San Francisco, California. LGBTQ+ muralists, BIPOC muralists, Trans, nonbinary, and women muralists are highly encouraged to apply.
Applications must be submitted through the online form. All applications must be received by 11:59 PM (PDT) on February 27 2026. Please note: Incomplete applications will not be considered.
An honorarium will be provided.
