Position Overview: The Finance Manager oversees Intersection's weekly request for payment (RFP) system through which financial transactions are processed for 175+ fiscally sponsored members.Working closely with Intersection’s Finance Team (including Executive Co-Directors, Administrative Director, Accounts Payable Manager, and Bookkeeper), the Finance Manager will ensure the implementation of Intersection’s financial policies and procedures in compliance with accounting standards. The City of Carlsbad's Library & Cultural Arts Department seeks to qualify an artist or artist team to enter into an agreement to develop a site-integrated work of art for the Village and Barrio traffic circle project located at the intersection of Pine Avenue and Harding Street in Carlsbad, California. A permanent public art should reflect the Barrio’s neighborhood identity and cultural and historic heritage.

As a site-specific piece, the permanent public art will connect to common themes shared by residents:

Barrio pride - Pride was expressed about not just the history and heritage of the Barrio, but the strong sense of community and diversity that exists today. A strong work ethic also came through as a source of pride, from the early days of working as ranchers and farmers and continuing today.

People helping people - Taking care of one another is something that came up often. Barrio residents feel a sense of security and connectedness because there are strong family and community ties and culture of looking out for one another.

Call for Artist Qualifications - City of Carlsbad

Arts and Cultural Impact Grants are available to nonprofit organizations seeking support for public arts and culture projects/programs up to $5,000 per year. We have two cycles for this grant program – Spring and Fall. Organizations may only receive one grant per year and must have completed their previous grant’s final report before submitting a new application.

Community Arts Grants are available to small nonprofit organizations seeking support for public arts and culture projects/programs up to $5,000 per year.  No deadline – grants are reviewed on a monthly basis. Organizations may only receive one grant per year and must have completed their previous grant’s final report before submitting a new application.

Individual Artist Grant Support provides a financial stipend up to $5,000 to selected artists in emerging and established stages of their career who demonstrate that this support will make a big impact on their work and on our community.

This scholarship empowers low-income youth to achieve their dreams and contribute to the county’s creative vitality and rich artistic heritage. Career opportunities in creative fields are growing and varied, from design (graphic design, architecture) to digital arts (filmmaking, game design, photography), literature to performing arts to visual arts (including crafts such as ceramics).

Position Summary: The Senior Program Manager, Economic Development works to conceive, identify, and secure funding for, and implement strategies to improve the economic self‐sufficiency of City Heights residents. They are responsible for day‐to‐day planning and operational management of activities and functions in the Economic Development program area, including: conceptualizing, developing, implementing and evaluating program delivery, procedures and standards; creating and monitoring program budgets; assisting his/her supervisor in determining program service levels and enhancements; interpreting and complying with all applicable regulations; identifying and developing funding opportunities; providing relevant advice and supervision to clerical, technical or professional staff, the public and other agencies. This position is responsible for direct supervision of the Economic Development team and budget. They report to and work closely with the Director of Economic Development & Business Improvement Operations.

Identify and secure funding to support Economic Development initiatives centered around five primary programs: business compliance assistance, community placemaking, business corridor enhancement, business development training, and workforce development.

Conceive, plan, and oversee the implementation of Economic & Workforce Development

Develop creative approaches to enhance and expand each Economic Development program area.

Work with the Director to develop and implement strategies to integrate all program areas as economic development initiatives.

Supervise and support the Program Manager in delivery of all services, documenting outcomes, and writing and submitting reports.

Foster strong partnerships with various stakeholders, including partners, organizations, and officials, who share a focus on any of the Economic Development program areas. Track activities, maintain accurate records, create and manage program budgets, and ensure that all required reports are prepared accurately and submitted on time.

Lead Economic Development team meetings and participate in Senior Management

Manage organization contracts with the City of San Diego overseeing business corridor enhancement program as it relates to the operations of Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) and Maintenance Assessment Districts (MADs).

Build and facilitate a strong and representative community stakeholder team that will have the buy‐in, influence and network necessary to implement creative placemaking projects.

Cast the vision for the importance of activating projects among potential partners, from all sectors: residents, businesses, micro‐enterprises, government, CBOs, BIDs, MADs, etc.

Liaison with the City to garner support and permits for

Conduct robust and empowering community engagement to understand the local appetite for projects and identify programming and design opportunities. Support the Director in facilitating the City Heights Economic Development Collaborative, develop workforce tools and materials for services, design of services and provide individualized job counseling services to local LMI residents who are job seekers from diverse and multicultural communities, and development of educational workshops/trainings.

Gather labor market information as it relates to workforce development, talent demand, and skills requirements, translating data into meaningful insights to inform the creation of workforce development strategies, while also developing and managing a database of employers and/or industry representatives, maintaining regular communication through appropriate channels.

Represent the organization in external meetings and act as a representative to a variety of public agencies, businesses, community groups and other nonprofit organizations; fosters collaborative working relationships with them to accomplish mutual goals and objectives.

Provide for the selection, training, and professional development of subordinate staff and makes recommendations on hiring, termination, promotion, and discipline as needed.

City Heights Community Development - Senior Program Manager, Economic Development

Strengthening the Sector grants will provide initiative-based support to organizations catalyzing systemic change at the policy level. 

Successful applications will identify the system an organization seeks to impact, demonstrate why the organization is well-positioned to take on this system change, explain why the work is a priority for the field, and share achievements and/or progress including policy accomplishments. 

We anticipate grants will support activities such as:

advocacy training and tools that build the capacity of individuals to understand and proactively influence issues impacting arts and community vitality, and/or research collection and action plan designed at a scale which have the capacity to impact policy and field-wide practices.

Examples of past recipients include:
* Arts Ed Data Project – using data to understand student access and participation in arts education
* Create CA – advocating for high quality arts education statewide
* Californians for the Arts – advocating for policies that cultivate and promote thriving cultural sectors statewide
* OPERA America – creating a national advocacy network of opera company trustees and administrators
* National Guild for Community Arts Education – launching a comprehensive arts education advocacy initiative

The Music Man Foundation will make grants in varying amounts for initiatives with varying timelines. We are eager to hear from organizations acting as agents of change, to learn about their aspirations and new projects with potential for greater impact. Grant amounts will take into consideration the organizational budget, scope of initiative, and the organization’s alignment with The Music Man Foundation’s mission. Grants will be one-time grants without any commitment made to future funding by the Foundation.  However, recipient organizations may reapply after all grant funds are expended and any required reporting has been submitted to the Foundation.

Applications must be completed in the Foundation’s online grant platform.  Before being provided access to the application, interested organizations must successfully verify their eligibility (requirements listed below) and submit a brief overview of the initiative for which they seek funding. If the initiative overview is in line with this grant opportunity, the organization will be invited to participate in an organizational interview with Foundation staff.

In order to be considered for funding, an organization must:

Reflect music within the organization’s efforts,

Have been conducting mission-aligned programming since March 2022 or before,

Have had at least one paid employee since March 1, 2023 or before,

Have a service jurisdiction that includes either Los Angeles County, California (statewide), or the United States of America (nationwide). Programs focused on a state that is not California will not be eligible.

For organizations that have previously received a grant from The Music Man Foundation, the organization must be in good standing with the Foundation before applying for the Award.

Executive summary that includes brief discussion of approach, milestones, and timeline.

Narrative portion that includes details of the progress the organization aims to inspire, greater detail about its initiatives and beneficiaries, the staff and governance structure, how the organization is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Financial section that includes a budget for the initiative for which support is being requested, two years of organizational budgets and audited financial statements or formal financial statements for the most recent fiscal year. If lobbying is part of the initiative, an allocated budget must be presented with lobbying and non-lobbying activities.

Demonstrated accomplishments in systems change and the capacity for the organization’s programming to create sustainable impacts.

Demonstrated understanding of the system the organization seeks to impact and insight as to why the organization is well-positioned to take on this system change.

Clear connection between the organization’s initiative(s) and how these lead to system change.

Clear description of the organization’s initiative(s) with the initiative’s (intended) participants and timeline.

Organization has a clear vision of its future intentions. Organization has capacity to identify and track progress towards key milestones for the organization and the system the organization is impacting.

Music is a primary component of the initiative’s efforts.

Strategic collaborations and/or partnerships exist and reflect an intentional collaboration that showcase intentional efforts to influence system dynamics.

California Immigrant Policy Center Opportunities

The Rella Lossy Award honors the memory of Rella Lossy, a lifelong champion of the American theatre and playwriting, by honoring the best new full-length script of a play by an emerging playwright that will premiere in Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma in the coming year.

The eligible region for this award has expanded! There are now nine eligible counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma.

The Rella Lossy Award is an award for professionally-oriented theatre organizations that will be presenting a world-premiere full-length play by an emerging playwright. The award goes to the playwright and the producing company.

For the purposes of this award, we define “emerging” as a writer that has yet to be produced on Broadway or by a LORT member theatre.

Must be located in one of the following counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, or Sonoma.

Theater Bay Area - Rella Lossy Award

The Department of Arts and Culture seeks qualifications from Art Consultants to establish a diverse Prequalified List of individuals and/or teams with a wide variety of experience to provide curatorial, public programming, community engagement, and public art project management services on an as-needed basis within a large range of budgets, project types, and constituencies.

This opportunity will expand the existing Art Consultant Prequalified List that is used to invite selected Art Consultants to bid on specific projects on an as-needed basis.

The Art Consultant Prequalified List has been active for two years and will remain active for one more year with an option to extend the list for up to three additional one-year terms. Annual evaluations will be held to add additional vendors to the list. Applicants may submit their qualifications at any time before the annual deadline to be considered for inclusion in the Prequalified List. Submissions received after the deadline will be considered for inclusion in subsequent annual reviews.

NOTE: Art Consultants on the current Prequalified List will not need to re-apply and will automatically qualify for the 2024 Prequalified List.

To be eligible for this grant, an arts writer must be

applying for a project about contemporary visual art;

an art historian, artist, critic, curator, journalist, or a writer in an outside field who is strongly engaged with the contemporary visual arts;

a U.S. citizen, permanent resident of the United States, or holder of an O-1 visa (if your application advances to the final round, you will need to submit current documentation);

at least twenty-five years old by Oct 1 in the application year;

a published author (specific publication requirements vary depending on grant category; see the project-specific eligibility requirements).

By “contemporary visual art,” we mean visual art made since World War II. Projects on post-WWII work in adjacent fields—architecture, dance, film, media, music, performance, sound, etc.—will only be considered if they directly and significantly engage the discourses and concerns of contemporary visual art.

An arts writer is NOT eligible for this grant if they are

applying for a project in which their primary involvement will be as an editor;

a full-time student in a degree-granting program (with the exception of those students who are simultaneously maintaining professional careers as arts writers);

an artist, writer, or curator writing an interpretive essay on their own practice;

applying for a project that is primarily fiction, poetry (including ekphrasis), or memoir; 

applying for a project based on a PhD dissertation or MA thesis;

AFLA seeks a full-time Director of Development to lead the cultivation, securing, and stewardship of foundation, corporate, and individual donors, and the expansion of earned revenue partnerships with organizational and individual members. This position is critical for the organization’s long-term financial sustainability and is responsible for fostering strong relationships with our funding partners, community members, and key stakeholders. The Director of Development will build AFLA’s fund development plan and maintain development-related information technology systems. Prospect, cultivate, and steward relationships to increase financial resources for AFLA through individual donations, grants, and corporate sponsorships.

Lead efforts in the areas of individual giving across the organization, including major gifts and the annual fund; collaborate with the CEO to identify major gift prospects and cultivation strategies for supporters with a capacity to give $10K+.

Oversee strategy and implementation of direct mail and digital campaigns to support annual giving in collaboration with the communications team.

Be the point person for tracking Board giving and fundraising, including administering the Board’s individual contributions.

Lead the AFLA organization and individual membership program (earned revenue) by securing renewals of existing memberships, recruiting new members, and serving as the first point of contact for current and potential members.

Develop campaigns for engaging members in AFLA’s advocacy efforts, including exploring new or expanded revenue models for membership programs.

Understand and modify as needed any systems for collecting, tracking and maintaining data on all aspects of revenue generation.

Lead the creation of a three-year fund development plan in partnership with the Board and executive leadership team.

Work with the AFLA staff team to support programs, advocacy campaigns, and long-term initiatives by ensuring revenue streams are in line with the work of the organization.

Share in the day-to-day operations of the organization as it relates to the duties of the position or as in the normal course of operations as do the other staff members (e.g., special projects, conferences, logistics, etc.).

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Qualifications

Experience in planning, leading, and managing contributed revenue goals and strategies, including coordinating with peers to achieve desired outcomes and tracking and reporting on progress to the Board of Directors and the AFLA executive leadership team.

5-7 years of progressive fundraising experience with a proven track record in work that results in organizational financial stability, including fundraising, grant writing, corporate sponsorships, membership, sales, etc., that contribute to the increasing visibility, impact, and financial resources of an organization over time.

Profound and confident understanding of foundation priorities and grantmaking practices to make strategic decisions with funding requests.

Exceptional comprehension, analysis, and writing skills, including the ability to articulate and explain complex program and financial issues in a clear, jargon-free manner.

Demonstrated level of comfort with public speaking and presenting complex information in a compelling manner to a variety of audiences.

Experience building organizational systems and processes, including onboarding new software and management tools/systems.

Detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to prioritize time to set and meet goals and deadlines.

Strong multitasking and problem-solving skills; ability to achieve in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment and proven experience managing large-scale projects.

Self-starter and a team player with the ability to develop and maintain a goal-oriented, positive attitude; must be able to interface equally well with all AFLA stakeholders, including the Board of Directors, Staff, corporate and community partners, donors, and the broader AFLA community.

Flexible and adaptable work style in both remote and in-person work environments while maintaining productivity.

Ability to use industry-standard software and platforms such as Google Workspace, video conferencing (e.g., Zoom, Google Meet, etc.), CRMs (e.g., Bloomerang, JoinIt, etc.), design (e.g., Canva, Adobe, etc.), and a general embrace of technology to support the operations of the organization.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, & Qualifications

Advanced degree in a related field and/or relevant professional certification (such as CFRE).

Experience interacting with nonprofit boards.

Experience with government grants, contracts, reporting, and compliance.

Familiarity with the Los Angeles arts and culture community and local government structures. 

Public relations, community organizing, or communications experience.

This is a full-time, exempt position. Days and hours of work are Monday-Friday from 9 AM-5 PM, with some weekend and evening hours required. This position operates in a hybrid remote/in-person work environment. AFLA currently uses a coworking space located in Downtown Los Angeles. This position requires local travel, as well as occasional travel within the state of California.

This position is responsible for supervising independent contractors and consultants to support the implementation of diverse fundraising strategies at AFLA. This position will also supervise internal development and membership staff positions as the organization grows.
